Solo, October 2, 2024 – Batik is an authentic cultural heritage of Indonesia, celebrated for its unique designs and intricate process. On October 2, 2009, UNESCO officially recognized batik as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, cementing it as a cultural symbol of Indonesia, now celebrated annually on October 2 as National Batik Day.
In celebration of Batik Day 2024, The Alana Solo collaborates with Batik Tirtanajma from Karanganyar, presenting a live batik-making experience in the hotel lobby. This activity is open to hotel guests as well as outside visitors who are simply stopping by or attending events at The Alana Solo.
Guided by artisans from Batik Tirtanajma, visitors can experience batik-making firsthand using traditional tools like the canting and hot wax, creating memories of this timeless craft. The activity is offered free to all interested visitors, with professional guidance provided. In addition to the batik-making experience, visitors can explore a collection of hand-drawn batik pieces and learn about their history, symbolism, and intricate production techniques.
“UNESCO's recognition of batik as an intangible cultural heritage not only protects batik as a cultural legacy but also strengthens Indonesia's national identity and fosters appreciation for batik among the younger generation. That is why today we bring batik artisans into our lobby, reminding everyone of our love and pride for this cultural heritage, encouraging preservation and appreciation,” stated Moses Rahadian, Public Relations of The Alana Hotel & Convention Center Solo.
Batik is more than fabric; it is a story, an art, and a legacy embodied in every piece. We wear it with pride and preserve it with love. Happy National Batik Day.
